Norm Miller wants to make Ontario a leader in compostable packaging

Norm Miller is pushing for a more environmentally-friendly Ontario.

Following up on his compostable coffee pod bill introduced last year, the Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP is hoping to make the province a leader in compostable packaging with a new private member motion. Miller says Ontario has a big waste problem and the main issue is the amount of packaging we throw away. He says having compostable packaging and municipal composting systems that can handle will have a big effect on Ontarians waste output.

Miller’s coffee pod bill was introduced last fall and called for all pods sold in Ontario to be compostable. The bill passed second reading last November and Miller says it created a lot of conversation over the issue of waste in Ontario. He says he wants to continue that conversation with this new motion.

The motion will be debated at Queen’s Park on Thursday.
