Walking and Map-Making Workshop with Jessica Thompson

Jessica Thompson will lead a walk through South River to map sounds of the village using analog and digital forms of map-making. Participants will learn about the social and political relationships between sound and place, and together will explore how the sonic landscape in South River has changed following the pandemic.Sounds identified during the soundwalk will be added to a larger sound map of the Almaguin Highlands on exhibit at NAISA.
The Borderline iOS app is used for the digital component of the workshop. Borderline enables users to automatically map sounds in their environment, put them in dialogue with other forms of data, and generate interactive soundscapes by playing sounds back into the environment.
