The Loop starts charging fares in phase two of the Gravenhurst transit project

A ride on The Loop will now cost you a toonie.

The Gravenhurst transit pilot project will start charging fares on October 3rd according to town officials. Director of Development Services Scott Lucas says the ridership numbers are looking good on the transit service which kicked off in July. He says this is a good sign as the bus is currently only able to run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays on a strict route.

Lucas says the two dollar fee per trip was decided on using feedback from the public. He says rider feedback showed this was a pretty reasonable fee. The money will be used to offset the cost of the program, which runs in partnership with the District of Muskoka and Hammond Transportation.

The Loop will continue to run until December and then the town will review the ridership numbers again. This information will be used by councillors to consider adding the service to the 2018 budget. The Loop currently uses the Highway 11 Corridor service bus from the district and Hammond.

You can still have your say on The Loop by taking an online survey provided by the town here.
