Huntsville meeting with the province on Tuesday to discuss potential funding for rain damage

Huntsville is continuing its talks with the provincial government over last week’s heavy rain. Town officials are meeting with the province on Tuesday to get more information on potential funding for the community. Huntsville has opened an online survey for residents impacted by the rain to fill out, and that information will then be passed onto the Ministry of Municipal Affairs. The ministry will then decide if provincial funding will be made available for residents.

On top of that, the town is also going to discuss potential funding for the municipality today. Many roads were closed following the rain due to washouts and erosion, and the estimated cost of repairs is around $700,000. Some of the roads closed include a part of Highway 60, Deerhurst Drive, which is still closed, Grassmere Road and Williamsport Road.

Huntsville officials say Tuesday’s meeting is an informational one, and more details about whether funding will be made available or not will be released in the future. There’s no word on an exact timeline, but the town has 120 days to get all of the information into the province.

Residents that were affected by the rain are still being encouraged to go through their insurance companies to claim damage. Around 100 millimeters of rain fell in Huntsville on August 22nd.
