Be on the lookout for snakes and turtles while driving this spring

With the spring like weather comes more of a chance of meeting reptiles on the highway.  Species at Risk Biologist with Magnetawan First Nation Ryan Morin says the Eastern Georgian Bay region has a large biodiversity of snakes and turtles including many species at risk.  Morin details a few of the species that are threatened in our area that you might encounter on the road.

Morin gives some tips for those who want to help by getting snakes and turtles off the road.

He and his team have been studying the stretch of Highway 69 through Magnetawan and tells of the alarming data they’ve collected.

He says people driving between Parry Sound and Sudbury might notice fencing along the sides of the highway which are to help keep snakes and turtles off the highway.
