McCrank Drive residents turn on proposed sewage development

A proposed sewage project on McCrank Drive in Bracebridge is getting a lot of backlash from residents.
The District of Muskoka began planning the project in February and recently sent letters to all the residents concerning costs for this new sewage system.
An e-mail has been sent around by one resident asking other homeowners to petition the proposed project, and that petition has received over 50 per cent of signatures.
According to the e-mail, each resident would be expected to pay over $12,000 per household and will be responsible for paying for the sewer connection to their homes as well.
The project is also being proposed on Westvale Drive, and one resident has estimated the project will cost him about $28,000 over the next ten years.
Three residents will be allowed to speak about their issues with this project at a meeting with the district today at 1:00pm.
Commissioner of Engineering and Public Works with the district, Fred Jahn, says the project was proposed after a need to replace septic systems was identified in that residential area.
He adds the project is meant to coincide with Bracebridge’s plan to reconstruct the roads in 2016, which will be more economical.
