The province of Ontario has released a new health and physical education curriculum. According to a press release, the updated curriculum will include healthy relationships, consent, mental health and online safety. There will be a big emphasis on physical fitness and healthy living. Sexual health will begin in grade one teaching students about identifying body parts, and will gradually move on to include internet and texting safety by grade 5 and then the concept of consent, puberty and physical activity by grade 8. The updates will come into effect in September. Comments from our local school board about the changes will be coming forward.
