Huntsville's chamber looking for solutions to solve a $133,000 shortfall

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce is looking for solutions. The Chamber is holding a special meeting for its members next month to vote on adding a borrowing resolution to their bylaws. Executive Director Kelly Haywood says they’re looking at getting a loan, having lost money at two recent events including the Muskoka Sound Music Festival.

Haywood says bad weather and it being the first year of this event were factors in the revenue loss. The Chamber also lost $69,487.70 at the Girlfriends’ Getaway Weekend. In total, the chamber lost $133,061.53 from the two events. Haywood says they are also looking into selling their building, which they own.

Haywood says they would use the equity to pay back any loans so the chamber doesn’t get into a position where they need to cease operations.

The special meeting is on December 4th at the Hidden Valley Resort. It’s happening in the Algonquin Meeting Room at 5:30pm. Haywood says she hopes their members will come out to show their support.
