Pride Muskoka Week capped with parade and picnic

BRACEBRIDGE, ON – The 11th Muskoka Pride Week was capped off with the second annual parade and a picnic at Memorial Park in Bracebridge.

Nearly two hundred people took in the short parade, featuring various community groups, the Bracebridge OPP and politicians.

Shawn Forth, the organizer of Pride Week was pleased with both the turnout to see the parade and the parade itself.

“We have probably over a thousand people in Memorial Park in downtown Bracebridge,” Forth told Moose FM’s Remy Smith. “We had over 200 people in the parade, we had hundreds of people lining the streets enjoying the new rainbow crosswalks for the day.”

From young children to the elderly, it seemed a complete cross-section of society was on hand to celebrate what Pride has come to represent.

Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith said he is impressed by how the event has grown over the years.

“Muskoka Pride continues to grow this event,” said Smith. “They are so good at raising awareness and putting on a celebration and that is what it is all about today.”

Since July 19th Muskoka Pride has been hosting events from a movie night to a church service to a mini-golf tournament.

The Pride Picnic had dozens of sponsors and community groups with tents and displays and free hotdogs cooked by the Bracebridge Fire department.
