Improved laser show and floaty race to highlight Bracebridge Canada Day event

BRACEBRIDGE, ON – The organization running Canada Day festivities promised this year will be bigger and better than ever.

The Rotary Club of Bracebridge has been putting on the event for over a decade and organizer Steve Meadly said they always try to outdo themselves.

“Each year we try to make it a bigger and better event and more crowd-pleasing,” Meadly said. “It’s a community event. It is one that we put on for the people of Bracebridge.”

Meadly said the group will continue with the laser show and they have even improved it. The organizer got really excited over the floaty race which is new this year.

“We are going to have people paddling across the river on their favourite floaty and the first one to cross the finish line will get a great prize from Camp Muskoka Coffee House.”

All the events will be down by the wharf in Kelvin Grove Park and Meadly told people to start coming by at 5 p.m. on Monday. He said the floaty race will happen at 8 p.m. and fireworks and the laser show will start after dark.

He added anyone looking to get in on the race just needs to show up. There is no preregistration.

The whole event is free but the organizer said the Rotary Club would appreciate donations.

“We will have people at the entrance ways down by the wharf area collecting money,” Meedly said. “We are looking for a donation of $20 per family and it will be the best $20 you’ve ever spent. We think it’s the best show north of Highway 7.”

Meadly added the group is always looking for volunteers and anyone who is interested in getting involved can contact them through the club’s website.

The organizer said they average 5,000 to 7,000 people gather at the park each year for the event.
