A fire has destroyed a house in Huntsville.
A report of a structure fire came into the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department at 6:00am this morning.
When crews arrived at the property on Britannia Road, they encountered a heavy fire in the attic of a two storey farmhouse that was over 100-years-old.
Port Sydney Station 3 provided extra assistance with two additional pumpers to help shuttle water to the scene.
The occupants of the home noticed smoke and along with their pets, were able to safely evacuate.
A Go-Fund Me page has been set up so the community can support the family.
The description on the page set up by Julie Lowe Groomes reads in part, “A fire has taken everything from my neighbours, friends, and family. This is the old Lupton homestead on Britannia.
“Because it was over 100 years old it required tens of thousands of dollars to upgrade so fire insurance was impossible to attain. He was working slowly to finish those upgrades even got an outdoor wood stove complete.”
One man was assessed by Muskoka Paramedic Service for minor smoke inhalation and released.
The home has been deemed a total loss with an estimated value of $350,000.
Fire investigators are working on the cause of the blaze.
