Should the government be allowed to access your banking information?

Residents in Muskoka seem to be on the fence after a Global News report suggested Statistics Canada wanted to gain access to transaction data. The federal branch is going directly to financial institutions to request the information, reportedly suggesting it doesn’t need consent from Canadians.

The MyMuskokaNow Newsroom went to the street to find out how you feel about your information being accessed by Ottawa.

Justin Trudeau is defending this move as well, saying the data used will remain anonymous and it will help build programs that are more relevant for Canadians. The Conservatives are heavily criticizing the move, suggesting the increase in data breaches across the country should be a red flag for the feds.
