Area YMCAs opening pools to public to beat the heat

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is offering you a way to cool off for free this weekend.

It’s opening its Health, Fitness & Aquatic Centres to the public. The YMCA says this comes in response to the hot and humid weather that’s settling in the region for the long weekend.

The facilities will be free and open to the public, the YMCA says, for as long as Environment Canada’s special weather statement about the heat is in place.

Temperatures over the next few days will be in the low to mid-30s, but with the humidex thrown in some places they’ll feel as hot as the mid-40s.

“It’s the first heat event of the season and we hope the community will take advantage of the free service we’re providing our residents in order to stay cool and prevent any serious heat illnesses,” said Karen Pulla, Vice President of Health, Fitness & Aquatics, YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.

You can find details about YMCA locations and hours of operation at its website. A government issued ID is required for entrance to the YMCA.
