OPP asking people to help keep beaches safe in wake of glass issue

The Bracebridge OPP is asking the public to help them out with area beaches. Local municipalities have been working to keep them clean after glass and other sharp items were found at a number of local swimming spots.

The OPP says, however, people are still occasionally reporting finding glass in the water. With that in mind, the OPP is asking beachgoers to keep an eye out for waste and other debris and to report anything that seems suspicious. Last month a letter to local media claiming to be from a group called the Islamic Revolutionary Force threatened beaches from “Toronto to North Bay.”

In the meantime, if you have any information about that letter, or about the recent damage done to area beaches, you’re asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can also submit your information online at this website.
