Clement building a case locally against a proposed federal tax changes on small businesses

Tony Clement is hearing a lot of concern from local business owners in the area.

The local MP was in Parry Sound last Friday to talk with locals about the proposed federal changes to tax loopholes on small businesses. Clement says there seems to be a lot of uncertainty on how these new taxes will affect local business.

The current annual tax rate on business investment income is 54 per cent and could increase up to 73 per cent. He says this money is often a rainy day or retirement fund being set aside by the business owner.

Before heading back to Ottawa, Clement is meeting with more businesses owners in Muskoka this Thursday. He says once he’s gathered feedback from these business owners he’ll be bringing their concerns to the House of Commons. The meeting will run at the Bracebridge Quality Inn starting at 6:30pm.
