Muskoka museum gets international support to pay for storm damage repairs

A museum in Bala is feeling the support from both the local and international community.

Curator of Bala’s Museum Linda Jackson says strong winds during a severe thunderstorm on May 18th took down hydro lines and nearby trees and also damaged the fence around the building.

With no insurance coverage for the damage, Jackson turned to GoFundMe to look for donations.

Jackson says they’re close to reaching their $2,500 goal and any extra donations will be used for museum upkeep costs.

Bala’s Museum opened 25 years ago and is dedicated to Anne of Green Gables Author Lucy Maud Montgomery.

Jackson says Montgomery visited Bala in 1922 for a holiday and started writing her novel titled The Blue Castle.

The museum was created in the old tourist home where Montgomery and her family had eaten their meals during their stay.

You can find more information on the GoFundMe page here.
