BREAKING: Bear Lake cottager believes he may have seen a tornado form

A Bear Lake cottager west of Sprucedale thinks he may have seen a tornado form today. At around 1:10pm, Paul Edge and others saw a waterspout come across the lake and then head inland. As it made its journey inland, Edge says it appeared to turn into a tornado. Edge says it may have done some damage in an area where there is a fire hall and house. It appeared to be about 30 feet wide, he said, and 30-35 feet in height. The small twister toppled chairs and may have taken down a flagpole as it headed off to the east. Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for the Burk’s Falls and South River areas. A thunder storm located east of South River was moving east-northeast at 50 kilometres an hour. This could possibly produce a tornado, but the warning is now over. (The waterspout that headed across Bear Lake today. Photo courtesy of Kathy Edge)
