Bracebridge and Huntsville Council Approve Proposed Two-Site Hospital Plan

Council members from Huntsville and Bracebridge unanimously voted in favour of a two-site hospital model plan.

During their special joint meeting last night, all 18 council members from both municipalities agreed on the plan to bring to the North Simcoe/Muskoka LHIN and MAHC. Huntsville Mayor Scott Aitchison says he was pleased with the support from staff.

Some solutions in the plan will provide better patient care as well as an increase in capital and operating costs. It will also avoid the creation of pressure to urbanize a new area of Muskoka with a single model site.

Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith says it’s all about what both municipalities want best for Muskoka.

Smith says the support from communities and other municipalities could potentially bring more consideration from the LHIN.

Both mayors say this plan does not have an effect on their relationships with the MAHC or the LHIN.

They add they are working hard to provide what is best for their communities.
