OPP’s distracted driving campaign underway

OPP in Muskoka are looking for distracted drivers. The campaign launched over the weekend and they’re continuing it during March break. They’ll be looking for drivers who aren’t focused on the road and this could mean adjusting your GPS or stereo, eating and drinking or using your cell phone.

So far in 2015, OPP report early numbers are showing that distraction-related road deaths are more than impaired-related road deaths for the seventh year in a row. Twelve of the 51 fatal collisions this year were related to distracted driving, and it’s not just an issue with young drivers, people of all ages are doing it says OPP.

The fine for distracted driving is 280 dollars including a victim surcharge and a court fee.

OPP have taken to Twitter to spread the word and remind people that distracted driving is a real threat.
