The Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Centre is reaching out to the community for volunteers who are willing to foster an animal in need.
According to officials, the foster program helps animals who are too young, sick, injured, under-socialized, or stressed and therefore have a harder time thriving in the animal centre environment.
Shelter staff are in search of volunteers to foster and give these animals a temporary loving environment until they are ready for adoption.
“Fostering not only gives an animal in need a loving home, it also brings joy, companionship, and purpose to the foster family,” said Lindsey Bunn, Manager, Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Centre. “It’s a meaningful way to fill an empty house – and heart – while making a life-changing difference.”
The OSPCA says the ideal foster volunteer can:
- Provide cats and dogs who need extra help learning new behaviors with a temporary home
- Take care of animals who have medical needs, like those who need medication or are recovering after surgery
- Support dogs who are pregnant and take care of their puppies when born
- Can provide bottle feeding and around-the-clock care
- Do not currently have other cats or dogs at home
