District of Muskoka to flush watermains until Nov. 10

The District of Muskoka will be flushing watermains and hydrants until Nov. 10 as part of regular system maintenance.

According to officials, watermain flushing ensures hydrants are functioning properly, assesses available water flow, helps maintain water quality and removes mineral and sediment build-up.

During this time, officials said residents may notice discoloured or cloudy water and reduced water pressure while crews flush hydrants in their area.

The District said there are no safety hazards associated with discoloured water. It is safe to use and consume.

Officials recommend running cold water from a bathtub tap or a faucet without a screen until the water runs clear if discolouration occurs.

The District also said residents may notice large puddles on the streets as water is flushed onto the roads during this process.
