Gravenhurst Winter Carnival in need of more volunteers

The Gravenhurst Winter Carnival is calling on the community for volunteer support as it prepares to return for another weekend of winter festivities.

The annual event will take place from February 13 to 15 at various locations throughout downtown Gravenhurst. Organizers said the carnival relies heavily on the support of local sponsors and volunteers, and people of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to get involved.

Volunteer shifts are offered in time slots across all three days of the event, and participants can choose positions and times based on availability. Registration will remain open until all positions are filled.

A volunteer orientation session is scheduled for the evening of February 11, where volunteers will have the chance to learn more about their roles with free pizza and donuts. Organizers also plan to host a Winter Carnival Heroes Appreciation Party at a later date, as a way to thank volunteers for their contributions.

The weekend schedule is packed with a wide range of food, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and high energy fun.

Festivities kick off on February 13 with the official winter carnival mascot, Skokie the Otter’s birthday party at Muskoka Discovery Centre. The celebration will include free pizza and cake, a magic show, horse-drawn wagon rides, and face painting.

On February 14, a carnival and fun games will take over downtown Gravenhurst and Gull Lake Rotary Park, including puddle jumping, a polar dip, a doggie dash, maple taffy making, a donut-eating contest, ice carving demonstrations, buskers, food trucks, and more. The evening will feature fireworks followed by Skokie’s Great Canadian Dance Party with live entertainment at Sawdust City Brewing.

The carnival concludes on February 15 with a demolition derby at the Severn Bridge Fairgrounds.
