Gravenhurst council debates tree preservation by-law

Gravenhurst council is working to preserve Muskoka’s natural beauty. In a recent Town meeting, council debated the public’s issue of a Site Altercation & Tree Preservation By-law. One resident says his concern is whether he’ll need a permit to cut wood on his property. Mayor Paisley Donaldson says the Town is not looking to put any burdens or restrictions on property owners and that the by-law is for waterfront properties and specific corridors. This is the first framework in response to an issue this summer where a property owner cleared all trees on a site on Pine Lake and Highway 169. Staff have suggested making some revisions before submitting a draft to council next month.
