‘We made a commitment’: Local MPP says 2024 budget will help move province forward

The 2024-25 provincial budget is all about spending the dollars necessary to move the province forward, according to Parry Sound Muskoka MPP Graydon Smith.

Smith said the budget, which includes a record $214-billion in spending, is about setting the province up for future success.

“It’s challenging times right now,” said Smith. “There was an option of whether you want to retreat or whether you want to go forward. We made a commitment to Ontarians five years ago when we took office to go forward and build what needs to be built, catch up on the infrastructure deficit left by previous governments and make sure that we can get Ontario in a position to succeed in the long run.”

The budget includes funding for upgrades at Killbear and Arrowhead provincial parks, the continued widening of Highway 69 from Parry Sound to Sudbury and $1-billion to help municipalities with roads, sewers, and water systems for new housing developments.

The deficit for the coming fiscal year, beginning April 1st, will be almost double previous forecasts, at $9.8-billion.
