Bracebridge family raises $33,000 for Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital

Kate and Kent Hammond’s third annual fundraiser in honour of their late son Miles raised $33,014 for the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH).

A fundraiser was held on March 2 at Canvas Brewing Co. in Huntsville.

Miles passed away in Feb. 2021, just before his first birthday, are battling a rare form of cancer.

“Supporting OSMH, where Miles received such outstanding care, is something we feel strongly about continuing to do,” says Kate Hammond. “We’re so proud of the support our community showed once again this year at the fundraiser. It’s a really special way to help us remember our sweet boy.”

The money raised this year is supporting OSMH’s pediatrics, neonatal investive care unit and Paediatric Oncology Group of Ontario’s satellite office in Orillia. It allows the hospital to buy two new bassinets.

Since the fundraiser was started three years ago, nearly $105,000 has been raised to support childhood cancer patients at OSMH.

Amanda Gaudet, a registered nurse at OSMH, says the family’s generosity has helped to transform the hospital.

“Their donations have improved the quality of nursing care and enhanced the overall patient experience,” says Gaudet. “The Hammond family’s kindness will continue to have a positive impact on the lives of countless individuals who come through our doors for treatment.”
