Hundreds have slammin’ good time at Rock Solid Wrestling show

Scotty the Body retained his Canadian Heavyweight title and helped raise $1,600 for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Muskoka (BBBSM).

Courtney Provan, executive director of BBBSM, says it was great to welcome Rock Solid Wrestling back to Bracebridge after a six-year wait.

“I was so enthusiastic,” she says about bringing the organization back. “This is not something I’ve ever seen before.”

Provan says the money raised will be used to support the day-to-day operations of BBBSM.

She says the increasing cost of living has affected many of the people who come through their doors. However, the issue has been made difficult to handle because of a lack of volunteers.

The event saw a crowd of hundreds surrounding the ring in the gymnasium of Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School on March 9. They all went home with smiles on their faces after Scotty the Body retained his Canadian Heavyweight title by defeating the dastardly Daddy Davis in the show’s last match.

It was the second time Scotty competed in Bracebridge. He was at Rock Solid’s show in 2018.

“There was one fan who showed me a picture of us at that show,” he said. “She’s a teenager now. It made me feel really old.”

Much like in 2018, the ever-popular grappler got the loudest cheers of the night.

Scotty says being able to return to Bracebridge and support a great organization like BBBSM is why he loves to travel town-to-town for his matches.

Adam Contant, promoter, says he feels “excited, ecstatic, and fulfilled.”

He says Bracebridge exceeded their expectations with their energy throughout the show and by showing up in droves for the event.

Could Rock Solid Wrestling be back in Muskoka sooner rather than later?

“I feel like we owe [the fans] another one pretty soon,” says Contant.

Count Provan is one of the many who hopes to see the promotion back in town soon. She says creative fundraising ideas – like tag teaming with Rock Solid – are also welcome at BBBSM.

“You can reach a whole new group of people when you have creative ideas,” adds Provan.

BBBSM hosts a golf tournament every Sept., but Provan says hosting events like “Bedlam in Bracebridge” allows them to reach people they may not have otherwise been able to see.

She admits it’s a risky approach, but all it takes is helping one new person understand what BBBSM offers to make it worthwhile.
