Winter storm warning issued for Muskoka and Parry Sound

A winter storm warning has been issued for Muskoka and Parry Sound. Hazardous winter conditions are expected. A low pressure system will intensify as it tracks over Southern Ontario bringing a wintery mix of precipitation. Snow, at times heavy, ahead of the system will continue to spread eastward across the regions this afternoon. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are expected in most places before the snow changes to freezing rain overnight. The freezing rain is expected to persist for several hours before temperatures rise above zero. The change to rain is expected to occur early Sunday morning for most locales. However, the Ottawa Valley will be the exception as freezing rain could persist until near midday Sunday. Ice accretions up to 15 mm are expected in the Ottawa Valley with 5 to 10 mm forecast for areas further south. After the rain comes to an end, a cold front will sweep through the region Sunday night, bringing a return to cold temperatures.
