Young girls of Muskoka learn about various career opportunities

The young female workers of tomorrow learned some important lessons about their future career paths during a special seminar in Muskoka.

On Thursday afternoon, grade seven and eight students from schools across Muskoka came together at the Bracebridge Sportsplex for Opening Doors for Young Women of Muskoka.

Event Organizer Ronda Turner says the girls were put into groups and paired with some very special role models.

She says they hope to encourage the girls that math and science are vital courses to take in order to get these types of jobs.

One of the former creators of the event Mary Storey says over a decade ago there were not a lot of women taking on more technical jobs.

This is the 14th year this seminar has run, and Turner says she is able to see the impact this has on these young girls after they grow up and pursue their careers.

Opening Doors for Young Women of Muskoka is run through donations and sponsorships.
