Lake of Bays to appoint councillor to empty seat

LAKE OF BAYS, ON- A local council will be choosing a new member to fill a vacated seat.

According to a notice from the Township of Lake of Bays, council has decided to fill the empty seat of Penny McEachern by appointing someone in her place. McEachern unfortunately had to step down this year due to health reasons.

The term of the position would run from the date of council appointing the new member through to November of 2022.

A Special Council Meeting to appoint a successful candidate will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. in the council chambers in Dwight.

Anyone qualified can submit their application in person, with their identification and a signed declaration of qualification by 2:00 p.m. on August 14th.

A candidate for municipal office must be a qualified municipal elector as set out in the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 and fulfill all of the following requirements:

  • Eighteen (18) years of age or older; and
  • A Canadian citizen; and
  • A resident of the Township of Lake of Bays, or an owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such an owner or tenant; and
  • Not prohibited from voting under any other Act or disqualified from holding municipal office; and
  • Able to provide at least 25 original signatures from individuals eligible to vote in the Township of Lake of Bays on the day they signed the endorsement.
