Snowshoeing for Ooch looks to give sick kids the summer camp experience

A Bracebridge woman wants to help create fulfilling experiences for kids with cancer.

Kalleen Turchet says she was inspired to become a change maker after spending time volunteering at Camp Oochigeas in Rosseau last summer.

More commonly referred to as ‘Camp Ooch’, the organization provides kids with cancer a chance to break away from the indoors to have the summer camp experience every child should.

Turchet says her time at Camp Ooch really changed her.

“The magic of Ooch, I’ve never experienced something like that before in my life,” says Turchet. “It makes you really realize how special it is.”

Turchet says she couldn’t leave this volunteer experience behind without finding more ways to give back. Tapping into her experience planning and organizing events as the Town of Bracebridge Economic Development Programmer, Turchet got to work pulling together a special type of fundraiser, which she’s named Snowshoeing for Ooch.

Turchet says the event will be a fun experience for the whole family that will also leave you with the amazing feeling of giving back.

“You’ll have the chance to snowshoe the loop at the [Bracebridge] Resource Centre,” says Turchet. “We have a few generous donations so if you finish the loop you’ll get a SWAG bag when you finish.”

You can also partake in hot chocolate and snacks provided at the resource centre after you finish your snowshoe adventure.

Shoeshowing for Ooch kicks off on March 2nd at 9:00am at the Bracebridge Resource Management Centre. Tickets are $20 per person or $60 for a group of four and all funds will be sent to Camp Oochigeas to help cover the costs needed to ensure campers have a safe and fulfilling experience this summer.

You can find more details on this fundraiser here and read more about Camp Oochigeas here.
