72nd Rotary Bracebridge Santa Claus Parade takes place Sunday

A long-standing Christmas tradition continues on Sunday in Bracebridge.

It is the 72nd annual Rotary Bracebridge Santa Claus Parade.

It starts at 1:00pm and features over 70 floats with this year’s theme centering around Disney.

Organizer Don MacKay from the Rotary club says it is always amazing to watch the transformation of the town on Sunday.

“It’s amazing to watch the town transform,” reveals MacKay. “As we’re setting up for the parade. We’re watching and the floats are all ready to go and we look down the street around 12:30 and there is nobody there. And then it’s just a slow-motion tumble where the town just sort of appears around the parade route.”

MacKay estimates the parade will range from 3,000 feet to 5,000 feet, nearly a mile, over the course of the route which runs down Manitoba Street from the starting area at McDonald Road.

And a popular aspect of this parade is the kids getting to spend some time with Santa after the parade. Kids can visit Santa at Memorial Park where hot chocolate will also be served.
