A former Huntsville resident is hoping to get into the Miss Universe Canada contest.

But she needs your help. Ciara Thompson, who went to Huntsville High, is waging an online campaign to fast-track past 19 other contestants to the main stage next month in Toronto.

She doesn’t know how many votes it will take but is asking for people to keep voting.

Thompson, who has a degree in sociology, is hoping to use the Miss Universe Canada campaign as a platform to fight homelessness.

She says that while there is still an evening wear and swimsuit competition the rest of the week-long competition focuses on the contestant’s community spirit.

“Just the final night is what you look like on stage,” she explains. “But otherwise it’s more about what you can do for the community.”
