NNDSB implements transition plan for Almaguin students

The Near North District School Board has made a transition plan for the Burk’s Falls area students.

After getting approval for close to $2-million from the province to refurbish Land of Lakes Public School to become a JK to grade 8 school, the board has made a plan for which school students will attend for the next three years.

The next school year will see M.A. Wittick, Magnetawan, South River, and Sundridge Centennial public schools will become JK to grade 7 schools while Land of Lakes will accommodate grade 8 students and current Special Education and grade 5-8 extended French students.

The following year will have M.A. Wittick, Magnetawan, South River, and Sundridge Centennial public schools become JK to grade 8 schools while Land of Lakes gets refurbished with Special Education and grade 5-8 extended French students attending M.A. Wittick or the most appropriate setting.

Then in the 2017-2018 school year, Magnetawan, South River, and Sundridge Centennial public schools will continue as JK to grade 8 schools and M.A. Wittick will close with those students going to the refurbished Land of Lakes school and a plan for Special Education and grade 5-8 extended French students is still being decided on.

The Board thanks its stakeholders in advance for their patience to allow for the time required to develop a thoughtful and purposeful plan for both student transitions and the Land of Lakes retrofit.
