Local couple donates $221,000 to Gravenhurst Health Hub

Local residents John and Denise Cooper have donated $221,000 to the Gravenhurst Health Hub.

The couple made their initial contribution of $100,000 on Oct. 9. Following their most recent donation of $111,000 on Feb. 26, their total support now stands at $221,000.

Officials said the couple expressed their special appreciation to their family physician Dr. Chris Richardson, and specialist Dr. Keith Moran, “for keeping this old guy going!”

According to officials, the latest donation was made by the transfer of a stock share investment that the couple said is an ideal way for donors to contribute, as there is no tax on an investment gain, and the donor receives a tax credit for the donation.

Officials said, so far, the Rotary Club of Gravenhurst and the Cottage Country Family Health Team have raised over $1.15 million dollars for the Health Hub. A tender has been approved for the first phase of the Health Hub project, with construction scheduled to begin on March 2.

Phase one involves developing the floor to accommodate essential infrastructure such as washrooms, hallways, and finish flooring and ceilings.

An additional $53,000 is still required to reach the fundraising goal for the second phase, which officials said is expected to be met later this summer.
