The Township of Muskoka Lakes is holding a public information session on Jan. 26 to collect feedback on proposed updates to the Non-Waterfront Zoning By-law.
The session will be held at the Port Carling Community Centre at 6 p.m.
According to municipal staff, the Township is required to review and amend its Comprehensive Zoning By-law within three years of an updated Official Plan coming into effect. So staff are in the midst of that review, to ensure the bylaw aligns with the Township’s 2023 Official Plan, which is currently under appeal.
According to officials, the new proposed bylaws address critical zoning issues in non-waterfront areas.
Some of the key proposals highlighted in the Consultation Guide include revising zoning standards to encourage affordable housing and establishing new regulations for additional dwelling units.
The update also addresses land use within community areas, home-based businesses, hunt camps, and parking requirements in core commercial zones.
Furthermore, the Township is proposing significant changes to specific zone categories, such as adjusting rural lot frontage and area requirements, managing residential clusters, and implementing the new local agricultural area designation to better protect local farming interests.
In addition to the January 26 information session, the Township is offering 15-minute one-on-one phone consultations with the project team on January 16 and will also launch an online survey mid-January to gather further feedback.
