The Town of Gravenhurst has launched a new interactive public art installation downtown to celebrate local creativity.
Officials said the initiative aims to support creative placemaking, encourage community engagement and enhance the downtown experience for residents and visitors.
The Town said the display features local multidisciplinary artist and illustrator Hanna Dykstra at Heritage Square, showcasing a collection of Muskoka-inspired designs, including woodland creatures, trees and seasonal elements.
According to officials, Dykstra was selected from among 22 artists who submitted proposals following a public call for artists issued Sept. 22 by the Town of Gravenhurst and the Gravenhurst BIA.
With a 15-day submission period, officials said the town received submissions from throughout Ontario and internationally, including New York and China, representing a diverse range of creative disciplines.
“This project demonstrates that even modest investments in arts and culture can create meaningful opportunities for artists, bring new energy to our public spaces and strengthen our sense of place,” said Stoyan Barakov, manager of arts and culture services for the Town of Gravenhurst. “Receiving 22 submissions in just 15 days, including international interest, was incredibly encouraging. We’re especially pleased to see a local Gravenhurst artist bring this creative vision to life.”
Officials said Dykstra’s colourful design features an imaginative collection of Muskoka-inspired imagery, including woodland creatures, trees and seasonal elements.
Visitors are encouraged to stand alongside the artwork, discover a playful connection to the natural world and capture a memorable Muskoka moment.
