The Town of Bracebridge has received the Municipal World WinterLife Award in recognition of its efforts to support the local economy during the winter months.
The award recognizes initiatives that encourage community engagement through indoor and outdoor activities throughout the winter season, from November to March.
According to officials, Bracebridge’s submission included the Festival of Lights and Fire and Ice Festival, as well as the many businesses, organizations, volunteers and residents who help bring these experiences to life.
Officials said the Festival of Lights, organized by the Town of Bracebridge and the Downtown Bracebridge BIA, brings the community together to celebrate the unofficial start of the holiday season. The event features live entertainment, family activities, Santa, a holiday train and a fireworks countdown, while local businesses stay open late and help create a festive atmosphere downtown.
Town officials said the Fire and Ice Festival is another collaborative effort involving the Town, the Downtown Bracebridge BIA, local businesses, community organizations, sponsors and volunteers. The festival transforms Manitoba Street into a winter playground, featuring the iconic downtown tube run and a variety of activities for attendees of all ages.
Additionally, officials said the celebrations continue throughout the holiday season with other initiatives to keep encouraging residents and visitors to explore the downtown and support local businesses during a traditionally quieter tourism season.
