Township of Muskoka Lakes has unveiled the preliminary design for the new Minett fire station.
During the Oct. 7 general committee meeting, Corey Moore, manager of parks, recreation and facilities, presented a report outlining the proposed design for a new fire station to replace Minett Fire Station 5.
The design proposes a 5,131 sq. ft. fire station consisting of three fire truck bays and supporting administrative, operational, and staff spaces. It includes a common area and kitchenette, office, universal washroom and shower, decontamination room, clean bunker room, storage and janitorial areas, and mechanical and electrical space.
Moore said $211,300 was allocated in the township’s 2026 capital budget for the design phase, which marks the first of three stages in the project.
According to the report, the proposed design has an estimated construction cost of $4 million to $5 million, including base building construction, site development and related construction allowances, as well as a 15 per cent contingency for design and pricing.
Moore said the new fire station’s design allows for future expansion to accommodate the community’s growth and changing needs.
According to Moore, the design will serve as a standard template for future fire stations under the Township’s 7-Station Fire Model, which aims to modernize facilities, reduce overlap and ensure reliable, high-quality fire protection across Muskoka Lakes for years to come.
He said the project remains in its early stages and will require council approval. He also said potential locations for the new fire station are still under consideration.
