The District of Muskoka is highlighting its accomplishments and progress over the past four years as the current term comes to an end.
According to staff, some of the key milestones they have achieved while working with the current council include the Big Move on Housing, the redevelopment of Fairvern Long-Term Care Home, expanded paramedic services and new child care spaces.
District staff said throughout the term, council supported investments in roads, water and wastewater infrastructure and local health-care projects, while delivering the second-lowest tax increase among regional governments in Ontario.
Officials said council also helped communities respond to major emergencies, including winter storms and flooding.
Other achievements include the introduction of the clear bag program to reduce waste, the District’s first multi-year budget and initiatives celebrating Muskoka’s history, culture and diversity.
“Over the past four years, we’ve faced challenges, celebrated milestones and made meaningful progress for Muskoka,” said District Chair Jeff Lehman. “I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together and grateful to my fellow Council members, District staff and community partners for their dedication to our communities. It’s been a privilege to serve Muskoka, and I look forward to seeing this important work continue.”
The new council will be sworn in on Nov. 19.
