The Muskoka Paramedic Services has launched a new digital notification system designed to help make roads safer for paramedics, patients, and the public.
According to District of Muskoka officials, the local paramedic service is the first, in partnership with HAAS Safety Cloud and ACETECH Global, to deploy the system.
Drivers will receive alerts through compatible 2018 or newer Stellantis in-vehicle infotainment systems, including Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo vehicles, as well as the Waze app.
Officials said the system helps alert nearby drivers by providing 30 to 60 seconds of advance notice through visual or audible warnings when paramedics are responding to an emergency.
The system can also notify drivers when ambulances are stationary at emergency scenes, encouraging safer driving around roadside incidents and emergency responders.
Officials said the system is expected to improve paramedic response times and reduce sudden braking and unpredictable driver behaviour.
District officials said the alert system uses existing ACETECH equipment in Muskoka Paramedic Services ambulances to send emergency notifications.
