District of Muskoka to perform waterman flushing maintenance until July 31

The District of Muskoka is flushing hydrants until July 31 as part of its routine spring maintenance program, releasing large amounts of high-pressure water through the system.

According to officials, the maintenance helps improve the quality and reliability of the water system by confirming hydrants are working properly, assessing available water flow, delivering high-quality water to customers, and removing mineral and sediment buildup from watermains.

District officials said residents may notice slight discolouration, cloudy water, or reduced water pressure while crews flush hydrants in certain areas. However, there are no health hazards associated with the discoloured water, and it remains safe to use and consume.

If people notice discolouration, officials recommend running cold water through the bathtub tap or another tap without a screen until the water runs clear.

Officials are also encouraging residents to check their water for rust before use each day, as discolouration of laundry and other items could occur.
