An updated building by-law is slated to be ratified at the Township of Muskoka Lakes council on Dec. 10.
During the Nov. 13 planning committee meeting, township staff presented a report proposing upgrades to the current building by-law.
The report notes that since the by-law was passed in 2005, there have been changes to the Building Code Act and Ontario Building Code, as well as functional changes adopted by the Township.
Officials said the proposed by-law includes administrative amendments and changes the fees related to the administration, regulation, and enforcement of the Building Code Act and the Ontario Building Code.
Some of the key amendments include updating definitions and the classes of permits section, modifying requirements for applications and inspection notices, imposing new alternative solutions to the objective-based building code, and minor amendments to sewage system maintenance inspection program fees and general provisions.
The amended by-law is scheduled to be brought before council for adoption at its upcoming meeting on Dec. 10 at 1 p.m.
