Muskoka Terry Fox runs raised around $160,000 for cancer research

The six Terry Fox Runs that took place in Muskoka this past Sunday (Sept.14) raised around $160,300 for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Here are the approximate totals, with some municipalities still counting. The funds will go towards cancer research.

Bracebridge: $23,000

Huntsville: Around $48,000

Gravenhurst: Over $12,000

Windermere: $57,597

Bala: Approximately $12,617

Mactier: $7,150

Sharon Stahls, organizer of the Huntsville Terry Fox run says everyone has the Terry Fox spirit and people are realizing cancer research is making a difference in people’s lives.

“In this time of economic instability, people have really dug deep and I’m so impressed.” Said Stahls. “And the committee is so humbled, and we are so thankful that people have come to recognize the importance of cancer research.”

Stahls says for the Huntsville run there were around 120 people who participated, including a local cottager, Sam Haven, who has been participating in the Terry Fox Runs for 24 years. In the over two decades of his participation, he has raised nearly $86,000 for cancer research.
