Rain and snow expected Halloween night

COTTAGE COUNTRY, ON – Trick-or-treaters may want to incorporate a jacket into their costumes as it is going to be cold and wet.

According to Environment Canada’s meteorologist Gerald Cheng, Parry Sound, Muskoka and Haliburton will be rainy, snowy and below-average temperature-wise over the next couple of days.

Unfortunately for the little ones, the worst of it will be Thursday night.

“I have some bad news and that’s why there is a special weather statement for the Haliburton area specifically,” Cheng said. “We are looking at rain and quite a bit of it. Around 30 millimetres is expected over the next 48 hours, which will take us right into trick-or-treating hours.”

Cheng added that the temperature will drop significantly at night and the rain may turn into two to five centimetres of snow.

The meteorologist added Muskoka is in for the same deal, while the weather could actually be worse in Parry Sound.

“We are still looking at 30 millimetres of rain, but the further north you go, it is looking more like five to 10 centimetres of snow,” Cheng said.

The meteorologist added that more rain and warmer temperatures should get rid of the snow Friday, but it will likely be back over the weekend. Cheng said Saturday and Sunday should bring more precipitation and unseasonably low temperatures.

Cheng added parents should make sure their kids bundle up if they are going out for Halloween.

“The seasonal temperature for the area should be about eight degrees,” Cheng said. “It looks like it will be four degrees, even dropping to three Thursday night, so make sure you work your coat into the costume. There will be rain as well, so make sure your costume will work with the weather conditions.”
