Gravenhurst councillor says residents have been ‘waiting a long time’ for project

Fowler Construction Company Ltd., based in Bracebridge, will handle nearly $3 million worth of road work in Gravenhurst.

Andrew Stacey, director of infrastructure services for the Town of Gravenhurst, details in his April 16 report to council where the work will be:

  • Narrows Rd. from Muskoka Rd. 169 to the end of the road
  • “Various segments” of Kilworthy Rd., including the on-ramp at Hwy. 11
  • Tower Cres. from Kilworthy Rd. to the end of the road

“They keep my staff very occupied filling potholes,” said Stacey.

He explained the work will see culverts replaced and the sections of road repaved.

He expects the work to start at the beginning of May and finish by mid-Aug. 2024. He said traffic may be reduced to one-lane “where deemed necessary” but Stacey added he doesn’t expect two-lane closures to be needed. However, the roads will be completely open outside of working hours.

Stacey noted in his report the bid from Fowler is less than the $3,315,000 that was earmarked for the work in the town’s 2024 budget.

Coun. Randy Jorgensen pointed out he’s received constant complaints about Kilworthy Rd. and suggested residents have been “waiting a long time for this” work to be done.

“To me, this is a good news story,” he continued.
