Red Cross in Bracebridge for victim registration from floods

BRACEBRIDGE, ON – A Red Cross registration session for victims of recent flooding is happening tomorrow.

The disaster relief agency is helping individuals and families in Bracebridge that might be in a vulnerable situation. Services can include information and referral services, emotional support, registration and support with urgent basic needs.

Denyse Gravelle-Howarth is a volunteer with Disaster Management at the Red Cross. She says people really need a hand up after an event like the recent floods.

“The people that we have met so far, they have maxed their credit cards out, they don’t have insurance, they have used friends and neighbours and some of them aren’t even working because they are trying to look after their home,” she says.

Financial assistance can be available depending on a flood victim’s circumstances both through the Red Cross and the provincial government’s Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program.

Registration can be done by phone at 1-800-863-6582, online at redcross.ca or in-person on Thursday, May 30 from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Bracebridge Sportsplex, 110 Clearbrook Trail.
