Spring thaw load rules begin March 18th in Bracebridge

As the spring thaw approaches reduced loads are being put into place on Bracebridge roads.

This is done annually to protect the road from damage by heavy vehicles. Doing it extends the life-cycle of municipal roadways.

The reduced load rule starts at 12:01am on March 18th and continues to 11:59pm on May 31st.

Director of Operations Walt Schmid says the program is important to help the roads in the critical spring period.

“It absolutely makes a difference,” Schmid said following a recent council meeting.

Signage is put into place advising trucks and other multi-axle heavy vehicles of the weight restrictions in place.

The OPP and MTO officers also help enforce the temporary guidelines.
