LESS THAN A THIRD OF KIDS IN HUNTSVILLE HAVE AN AVAILABLE CHILD CARE SPACE

It’s confirmation of something you may already know: it can be difficult to get child care in Huntsville.

A new study says there are 515 children that are three-years-old or less in Huntsville, and only 161 licensed care spots. That’s a spot for only 31 per cent of the kids.

The numbers come from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives’ look into child care deserts. Those are postal code areas with three kids for every one child care space. Overall, roughly 776,000 or 44 per cent, of non-school-aged children in Canada live in child care deserts. You can see a map outlining them by at the CCPA’s website.
