Campfires not out even with Risk at High

One of the great things about life in Muskoka is the campfire. But when conditions get dry and the fire ratings from the local fire department change, what are your options when it comes to making some Smores memory with the kids?

Fire Prevention officer for Huntsville and Lake of Bays Fire Department Mike Vadlja says you can still have a fire, but there are some limits to adhere to.

The important thing is to fully extinguish the fire once you are done because if you don’t the hot coals can be dangerous for many hours after you have stopped sitting by the fire pit.

Smokers in cars need to understand what a risk they pose as well. If you have an ashtray in your car use it. If you don’t use a coffee cup with liquid in it and get rid of your butt that way.

Vadlja says grass fires are a constant worry because of smokers.
