Home owners warned of oil spill on Lake Joseph

Health officials are warning property owners in Seguin about an oil spill on Lake Joseph.

The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit says oil has been discovered leaking into Hammer Bay on the lake, but officials are still investigating where it’s coming from. The oil is moving along the ice to an area where it’s starting to melt. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has been called to monitor the situation.

Property owners with water coming from the lake or a nearby dug well are warned your water supply could be contaminated. If you see signs of contamination like an oily sheen on the water, you’re asked to call the Health Unit at 705-474-1400 ext. 2400 and contact the MOECC at 1-800-268-6060.
